In the year 1976-77 a group of young enthusiastic Leos from LEO CLUB OF POONA decided to manifest their long standing dream to serve the society on a large scale. They had the utmost sincerity and dedication in their minds. This thought and vision was given shape and a club “LIONS CLUB OF POONA SARASBAUG” was inaugurated on 26th January 1977 at the auspicious hands of South Asia Secretary, LION VISPY ENGINEER. The charter was signed on 3rd March 1977 and presented to charter president LION VIJAY MUNDADA with 25 charter members on 10th April 1977. Ours is the fifth club in the district 323 D2. LATE LION P.M.GANU was our Guiding Lion, Sponsored by LIONS CLUB OF POONA. And the District Governor of the Joint District 323 was LION L.B.GADRE.
During the journey of 31 years our club has produced distinguished dedicated, most devoted leaders and non repeated leaders. our club given uninterrupted service to needy as per the International Presidents and District Governors programme under the guidance of charter member. A pride of our club MJF LION F.N. RANKA VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR DISTRICT 323 D2 (2008-2009) has been elected unoppesed in the 12th Annual District Conference.
LIONS CLUB OF POONA SARASBAUG has a tradition of educated visionary leadership & has bagged countless awards & appreciations by each District Governor. The wisdom of the great leaders and equally enthusiastic members their untiring efforts ensured that the club today has many permanent and other projects to its credit, which has transformed the lives of many in our society. their credibility has resulted in strong fund raising capacity, ability to organization and administer any kind of events, be it a mega service activity or a large project. This club had given births too many permanent projects which has enhanced the image of lions.
In the year 1982 our beloved president Lion Dr. Vikram Chavan, during his tenure lost his life in accident, while coming to pune after completing cancer detection camp at Satara. In Memory of Dr. Vikram Chavan the club decided to publish the club bulletin “SARAS VIKRAM” This Saras Vikram is Published regularly since 1983.
A very good personal rapport of each member with other fellows of the organization and a zest to strive for the best are the few qualities that have been instrumental in keeping LIONS CLUB OF POONA SARASBAUG in the Top Ten of Administration & Activity contest for all these years in the District. The journey has been successful & today the club has 67 Enthusiastic & Dedicated Members. LIONS CLUB OF POONA SARASBAUG is the 2nd largest club in membership in the District 323 D2. Our club is specially known as a family club where non-veg & liquor has no place. District 323 D2 came in to existence in the year 1996. The District 323 D2 having more than 105 clubs and over 3000 active lions. The district is spread over Pune, Ahmednagar and Nasik region. & with proud one can say that it is prestigious club in the district.
All the club records have been maintained since 1977 as being methodical is the order of the day. LIONS CLUB OF POONA SARASBAUG has their own CHARITABLE TRUST existing actively since 1980 and has 80G certification under IT Act which is a commendable achievement for the club and all the activities of the club under this banner.
LIONS CLUB OF POONA SARASBAUG is the only club in the district had collected Rs.3.5 lakh from their own members and 12 members from our club went to BHUJ, GUJARAT and stayed there for 8 days and construct the school building after the earthquake.
During the tenure of President Lion F.N.Ranka in the year 1981-82, He, Lion Raju Milani and Ex Lion Shashi Sharma, had donated a beautiful rotating trophy for the Best Lion of the year to the club, A separate committee which includes ruling president & the donors of the trophy receive nominations from the board of directors, Scrutinized it on the basis of norms letdown by the club and declare the final result to the time of club installation, and handover to the respective best lion at the hands of Installation Officer.
